The Rumour

To celebrate Batman's 80th anniversay, Warner Bros and DC plan to release four live action Batman related films in 2019: Gotham City Sirens around Valentine's Day weekend, Nightwing on Memorial Day weekend, Batgirl in August and The Batman in November.

There will also be two animated movies released that year to blu-ray and DVD (more of which soon).

Response

It's a good idea to use the 2019 celebration as a real release event - particularly if Warner Bros tie all of the movies together culminating in The Batman being a sort-of cross-over narrative end-point tying the four cinematic stories together.

It will be tough to pull that off, and even having four movies in production at once is a pretty major undertaking, but Batman doesn't turn 80 every year, and it would be a hell of a publicity opportunity to further hype the DCEU machine.

Sure, there'll be suggestions of over-saturation, but a few months is a long time in cinema, and six comic book movies took over $500m at the global box office in 2016, so it's not like interest is waning, exactly.

Plus, more animated Batman movies is a good thing no matter when they come out.
