Dead Silence is the new horror movie from the Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell and it looks really cool. I love the atmosphere and the set design that the trailer evokes and just as Filmstalker points out, it’s creepily effective in a Silent Hill sort of way.
Now Silent Hill I wasn’t a fan of at all, but the movie had some wicked set designs and is the first horror in a long time to have a geninue creepy atmosphere about it.
So the idea of Dead Silence then, is that a creepy ventriloquist’s doll has come to life and starts murdering people, usually taking out their tongues so they can’t talk anymore.
As usual with horror movies, in all likelihood the film will suck but will entice people in with this really great trailer. Hell, it might have succeeded in nabbing my money already.
You can see the trailer for yourself by clicking here.
Any thoughts? Is the idea of a dummy murderer to silly for you to comprehend or has the trailer worked on you too?

It does look potentially scary and good at the same time. The image on the movie’s website is truly creepy. the way the lights keep flashing and the doll’s eyes keep changing spots, i wonder if it’s going to jump out at you or something.
but yea, if you look at the picture of the dummy itself, its not scary….but when you see it moving on film or your bedroom floor, it’s scary as hell.
what i don’t get is why is there such an emphasis on “cutting out your tongue”. i always thought getting MURDERED by a doll would be scarier, but just getting your tongue out may sound unpleasant, but not truly horrifying….
And as always with doll movies, you have to believe in the rule of “suspension of disbelief” because if there were dolls really roaming around, you’d just step on one or kick one across the room, or just shoot it, to kill it. but I, for one, wouldn’t want to be stuck in the same room with ANY living doll, whether friendly or not. i think this could be scary, but it prolly won’t really end up being. im sure itll be fun to watch, nevertheless.
