The huge box office success of 20th Century Fox's R-rated Deadpool, which made $762 million from an investment of $58 million, wasn't enough to convince Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to follow in their footsteps and greenlight another R-rated Marvel film.

While recently movies such as Kingsman: The Secret Service and Mad Max Fury Road have proved that R-rated action movies can be a huge box office draw, Feige revealed in an interview with Deadline that the studio had no plans to follow suit.

Feige played down the impact of the R-rating on Deadpool's success, saying,

"The thing that Deadpool shows is, when you present something unique to an audience, they will respond to it. When you present something as popular as a superhero character, in a different and unique and crazy way as they did in Deadpool, it demands attention and audiences went to it. They pulled it off."

He went on to outline a valid point with regards to staying faithful to the source material, something which in the case of Deadpool entirely justified the R rating but would be inappropriate for other Marvel properties. "We€™ve always said if there€™s any €œsecret€ it€™s respect the source material, understand the source material and then, any adaptation you make from the source material should be done only to enhance whatever the original pure spirit of the source material was. Deadpool hit on all cylinders with that."

Feige praised the makers of Deadpool for successfully capturing the essence of the character: "Tim Miller did a tremendous job. The other secret, and why it€™s still a secret, I don€™t know, but they just took what Deadpool is in the comics. He breaks the fourth wall. He talks into the camera. He doesn€™t give a sh*t about any of the other heroes. He doesn€™t take anything seriously. All of that is what made Deadpool so popular in the comics. Tim and his writers and Ryan Reynolds were able to get that and even magnify that up on the big screen."

Feige's comments support a recent Twitter announcement concerning Disney chairman Bob Iger, which stated, "We don't have any plans to make." However, if you're looking for more R-rated comic book movie action, plans to make the upcoming Wolverine 3 R-rated was announced in The Hollywood Reporter, while Coming Soon reported the Blu-ray edition of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice has also confirmed an R-rated extended edition will be included.
