Dredd 2: 15 Stories We'd Like To See

11. The Hunting Party

Okay, so say that in the follow-up to Dredd things do get a little more broad - not in a supernatural way, like the Dark Judges, but going further with the sci-fi side of things - and wants to expand the scope a little: May I humbly offer up the Hunting Party as potential source material? This late-90s story sees Dredd and Judge Glen DeMarco (could be changed to Anderson if you wanna keep some continuity) leading a whole group of rookie Judges across the irradiated desert that surrounds Mega-City One, better known as The Cursed Earth. Why are they in the desert? The Maguffin is a search for the Dune Sharks, predatory aliens who had recently attacked the city. They actually appear in the prequel to The Hunting Party, The Pack, but not here, so you could either increase their appearances or cut them out entirely. So, you could get a cool Dredd riff on Aliens, with the Judge Cadets standing in for cocky marines, and the Dune Sharks for...aliens. Or you do what happens in the comic, where the group come across increasingly strange denizens of the Cursed Earth, the cadets acting as the audience-identification character Anderson played in the first movie, our guides to the weirdness that is the Dredd universe.
