Edgar Wright Has Hired The Punisher For His Next Movie

The fanboy cred on Baby Driver just grew by a factor of ten.

Edgar Wright's eagerly-awaited next film, Baby Driver, has just finalised its cast - and the word is coming in from Deadline that it includes Jon Bernthal. The report says that Bernthal will be playing the role of Griff; although not much is known about the role, it's said to be "key". He'll be joining Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm and Lily James. The plot of Baby Driver follows a crime boss' (Spacey) efforts to persuade a young, talented driver (Elgort) to work for him. The driver, nicknamed Baby, "relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to shield him from the chaos that surrounds him, but he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom". I'm sure it'll make a lot more sense when we see it play out on screen, but considering that it's Edgar Wright, expect it to be smart, slick and cool as hell. Bernthal's career continues to go from strength to strength; from breakout roles in The Pacific and The Walking Dead, to The Wolf Of Wall Street and Sicario, Bernthal clearly has great judgment (or a great agent). His next meaty role will be that of The Punisher in Daredevil Season 2, due out on Netflix in March, in what many fans are describing as f*cking fantastic casting. Likewise, the pairing of Bernthal with Edgar Wright should make for a strong blend. Baby Driver is released on 17th March 2017.
