After mixing Indie work with the occasional blockbuster since making her Oscar-nominated breakthrough in 2007′s Juno, the versatile Ellen Page is to do the fashionable thing for under 30 year-old actors and step behind the camera.

Deadline reports that Page will make her directorial debut with Miss Stevens, a romantic-comedy that has just secured Anna Faris for the lead role.

Written by Julia Hart (The Keeping Room) and produced by the shingles behind The Kids Are All Right (Gilbert Films) and Winter’s Bone (Anonymous Content), the movie will follow Faris as a trouble high school teacher who rediscovers her self-worth when she plays guardian to a group of students on a weekend trip to a drama competition. On paper a fairly routine romantic-comedy and although Faris is by no means an indicator of quality in the genre, it’ll be interesting to see if Page asks her to play against her usual ‘ditzy’ type for this one and perhaps shoot for something more authentic.

All being well, it looks like Miss Stevens could be aiming for a potential shoot in the fall as Page is busy for the next few months with her Kitty Pryde return for X-Men: Days of Future Past and the gay rights drama Freeheld, whilst Faris is shooting a Chuck Lorre CBS pilot.
