Empire has PUBLIC ENEMIES exclusive

A good two days earlier than it usually arrives at my front door, this morning I got hold of the new Empire Magazine which has a rather lazy WOLVERINE cover (I've recently enjoyed the WATCHMEN and STAR TREK ones) but that's ok because it does have a cool exclusive on Michael Mann's 30's gangster epic PUBLIC ENEMIES. I couldn't find the photo's online yet so I've used my handy iMac webcam thingy to take the stills. They aren't great but they are the best we have right now. Here's Johnny Depp as John Dillinger, the first "rock star" gangster who was to some the most dangerous criminal in America but to others he was the Robin Hood of a depression era Chicago. Out to get him is ambitious F.B.I cop Melvin Purvis. Mirroring Al Pacino in HEAT, it's Christian Bale's job to track down Dillinger and his notorious gang by any means necessary and the film is the cat and mouse game between these two historic figures. This year's Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard plays Dillinger's love interest Billie Frechette. Director Michael Mann talks of the similarities to HEAT with the mag...

"McCauley was on a completely different trajectory. He thought about the future. These guy were fatalistic: history was something that happened to you; there's a bullet with your name on it".
There's lots more images and talk from PUBLIC ENEMIES (I've read the script and it's pretty damn ace... but it's Bale/Depp/Mann, what more do you need to know?) in this month's Empire mag on sale this week... PUBLIC ENEMIES is out on July 1st (U.S.) and July 3rd (U.K.) of next year.
