Evan Almighty director unhappy with marketing

evanalmighty3_large.jpgTom Shadyac, the director of the soon to be released Evan Almighty is unhappy with the lack of advertising generated for his film by Universal. He's even said to have called a meeting with the studio execs to vent his anger, where it's said he went a little apeshit. From Deadline Hollywood Daily...
"He made a fool of himself. He was completely out of control," one insider told me. Said another source: "He was abusive, aggressive and obnoxious. People were really shaken by his huge blow-up. He acted like an asshole and was hurting himself and hurting his movie." Shadyac also fired his long-time marketing consultants Buffy Shutt and Kathy Jones".
He certainly has a point. The buzz for the film is simply non-existent at this point (out of 49 votes on our poll for movies to look forward to this month... NOBODY VOTED FOR EVAN ALMIGHTY!) although I would put it down to several factors...
1) No-one wants to see a sequel to an "average" and instantly forgettable film like Bruce Almighty. 2) Especially if said film doesn't have Jim Carrey. 3) As Shadyac points out the lack of advertising but when you have inflated your budget to over $200 million for a COMEDY MOVIE... what do you really expect?
Evan Almighty is not going to make a profit without some serious good fortune. Of course the studio don't want to spend anymore money on advertising the damn thing... it's already a lost cause from where I'm sitting. Anyone looking forward to Evan Almighty, really? source - film ick
