Every Planet Of The Apes Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Beneath The Planet Of The Apes (1970)

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
20th Century Fox

Charlton Heston had little interest in anything more than a bit part in the first Planet of the Apes sequel. Clearly it was beneath him... Sorry, moving swiftly on.

The movie begins with the actor's "god damn you all to hell" rant from the end of the first film, and when your most memorable scene is a rehash, you're really in trouble.

The rest of Beneath is a goofball romp through future-Earth involving a second time-travelling astronaut (played by James Franciscus), a band of nuclear bomb-worshiping mutants and our usual helping of those eponymous apes.

Heston pops up again at the end, just in time to put an end to this farce by detonating a nuclear bomb and wiping out the entire planet. Uplifting, or what?
