With the recent release of Creed II, the Rocky franchise brings itself to a grand total of eight movies, and it surely must've been inconceivable to Sylvester Stallone back in 1976 what a phenomenon his iconic creation would become.
From the gritty beginnings of the $1 million original to the glossy confidence of the most recent instalment, Rocky has certainly had its ups and downs, though the vast majority of the eight films have in fact enjoyed solid critical and commercial success.
With Stallone recently announcing his retirement from the Rocky Balboa role and Creed II giving all the focal characters a pretty solid send-off, there's no better time to revisit the entire run of movies and separate the wheat from the chaff.
Thankfully there's one truly terrible Rocky movie, and while the films do begin to feel a touch repetitive if viewed in quick succession, they nevertheless do a surprisingly solid job of surviving on their charm and heart, largely thanks to Stallone's consistently great work...
