Every Star Wars Lightsaber Battle Ranked From Worst To Best

Get ready to argue.

Anakin V Obi Wan
Lucasfilm

Get the pitchforks ready, because everyone's about to start arguing about what exactly are the best and worst lightsaber battles in the history of the Star Wars saga.

Now, a little housekeeping first: this list only includes actual lightsaber battles, so all combatants must handle a lightsaber for at least part of the fight...as fun as it would've been to include Anakin slaughtering the Tusken raiders and the Younglings, or Vader's climactic slaughter in Rogue One. They're all a little one-sided, no?

Instead, this is a comprehensive breakdown of the 14 lightsaber fights in the franchise to date, from the most disappointing, dated and underwhelming of duels, to the most fanboy-pleasing, intense and iconic battles in the entire series.

Everyone's got an opinion on this, of course, so have yours at the ready as we take a deep dive into the action sequences that best define cinema's most iconic franchise...

14. Obi-Wan Vs. General Grievous - Revenge Of The Sith

The marketing for Revenge of the Sith did such a fantastic of hyping up how bada** General Grievous was going to be that his quick defeat at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi less than half-way through the movie naturally left a lot of fans feeling incredibly short-changed.

Despite Grievous quad-wielding lightsabers he touted as trophies from various Jedi he'd killed over the years, both sides in this battle quickly resorted to non-lightsaber shenanigans, and before long Grievous ended up having his exposed organs turned into a fiery mess by his own blaster.

Grievous twirling his four sabers around was super cool, but the actual fight itself was too short and a textbook example of a character basically designed to look cool in a trailer and on lunchboxes while having virtually zero actual narrative significance.
