Ex-Chelsea Winger Pat Nevin Becomes 'Hyped East London Indie DJ'

Never judge a book by its cover...

Get yourselves along to 'Scared to Dance' at The Moustache Bar in East London, as the headliner is former Chelsea and Scotland midfielder DJ Pat Nevin. Yes, you read that correctly. Despite appearing as a no nonsense, dry humoured, old fashioned type of bloke on our television screens and Radios as a football pundit, the 51-year-old is making waves behind the decks. Known for being a bit of a wing wizard in his time on the field, Nevin started spinning the discs in the 80's and has seen his second career go from strength to strength. He cites former BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel as his inspiration. "I had been listening to John Peel since I was 14, every night lying on my bed with headphones on," Nevin told Vice's 'Noisey'. "I was just a muso, that€™s all I was. "Eventually I started DJing. Even when I was playing football for Chelsea I was doing it. Although, when you are playing football you can€™t be spinning tunes until 3am in the morning, because you have to take care of yourself a wee bit. I€™m asked loads now, and can only accept about one in five of the offers I get." Pat, who scored five goals in 28 appearances for the Scottish national team, struggles to fit this most surprising of hobbies in with the rest of his schedule. Take this past weekend as an example. On Saturday, he did a speech in London before commentating on Sunday's Capital One Cup Final. In between that, Saturday night saw him play a set in Dalston until 3am. The man is a machine. Wondering what Nevin's go-to tunes are? Well, revellers can expect to hear tunes from the likes of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Camera Obscura, The Fall, Belle and Sebastian and New Order. As well as appearing in The Moustache Bar, Nevin is the surprise name in the line-up for a retro festival headlined by the Happy Mondays and hosted by Butlins in November.
