Fast 8 Is About To Get Furiosa

Charlize Theron in talks for the villain.

In an intriguing move, Universal are supposedly courting Charlize Theron for a villainous role in 2017's Fast 8. Anyone who was impressed with her turn in last year's Mad Max: Fury Road (read: everyone) will know and appreciate that Theron can handle her action beats as well as the next guy - even if the next guy is Vin Diesel. Diesel recently announced that there's a whole new trilogy in the works, with Fast 9 due in 2019 and Fast 10 (sweet Jesus) scheduled for 2021. If Theron does sign on the dotted line, it could well be for the entire three movies. Exactly what the role would entail is unclear at this point, but you can probably expect a team-up with returning bad guy Jason Statham. All that we know of Fast 8 so far is that Diesel is returning along with franchise luminaries Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez and Ludacris. Other rumours from last year also brought up the possibility of Eva Mendes reprising her FBI agent role from 2 Fast 2 Furious, but it's been all quiet on the Western front in regards to that. The film's storyline is set to take place in New York City for the first time, so we can all look forward to Vin Diesel driving a car up the Statue of Liberty. Or something equally insane, no doubt. Fast 8 is scheduled for release on 14 April 2017, with or without Charlize Theron.
