Keep your Bella, Katniss and Lisbeth. The bell of the ball and most sought after role for young actresses has to be that of the female lead in the highly anticipated film adaptation of the bestselling series ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.

When it comes to who will be the lucky gal to play the role of Anastasia Steele, all bets are off. Not since a little known British actress named Vivien Leigh beat out several actresses of her day for the lead in ‘Gone With the Wind’ has there been so much speculation of who should play a role. It’s been a fair amount of time since then, let’s face it. Rumors spread like wildfire in Hollywood, and every name has been put forth from Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart to Angelina Jolie (Really? Whips and chains may be right up her alley but come on. A little too easy I say).

Those familiar with the books have their own vision of who Anastasia is and what she will be like. Like the fairy tale princess ‘Cinderella’ it will be interesting to see out of all the maidens in the kingdom just who the slipper fits.

Anastasia is young, described as a “pale, brown- haired girl with blue eyes too large for her face” who undergoes an emotional and sexual awakening when she falls into the life of handsome billionaire Christian Grey. Theirs is a turbulent relationship, where in turn she is the submissive and dominant force, that pushes Anastasia’s moral and physical boundaries.  While Anastasia starts out an innocent and unaware college student, as the relationship with Christian progresses she is able to help Christian release the demons of his past and find her own reserve of inner grace and strength.

Sexual themes of S&M figure strongly, and any actress considering the role will have to be comfortable with nudity and approach the role with total abandon. With all the hype surrounding it ultimately the greatest factor to who becomes Anastasia Steele will be the chemistry with the actor who will be Christian. Here now for your consideration are some actresses who could wear that glass slipper and bring Ms. Steele to life. Some are well known, some not so well known.  From the more exotic to just good old wholesome vanilla in looks they can embody Anastasia’s innocence and spirit.
