First Look: Benicio Del Toro & Blake Lively in Oliver Stone's Drug Thriller Savages

Universal release the drug cartel thriller on September 28th but there's a good chance it might premiere at Cannes.

The Argentina arm of Universal Pictures have tweeted the first official image from Savages, the new drug thriller from veteran director Oliver Stone. Our first look features Benicio Del Toro as a Mexican drug cartel enforcer who is blowing smoke into the mouth of Blake Lively, a girl he has kidnapped because she is romantically linked to one of the two Laguna Beach drug dealers (Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch) he wants to put out of business by steal their ground. Del Toro looks to have the showy part but Stone has also brought together a fine cast of supporting players including; Salma Hayek (as the boss of the cartel), John Travolta (as a washed up DEA agent), this week's Oscar nominated Demian Bichir (as a two-faced attorney to Hayek's cartel), Uma Thurman (as Lively's mom), Joel David Moore (an IT nerd) and also Emile Hirsch in an unspecified part. Can't wait to see more from this movie and especially of Del Toro's performance as he hasn't done this kind of thriller in a while. I'm half thinking this one might play at Cannes (Stone's last movie Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps premiered there two years ago) and hopefully a trailer isn't too far away from being released. Savages is due September 28th.
