Fishburne acquires The Alchemist

the_alchemist.jpgLaurence Fishburne through his producing banner A-Mark Entertainment have acquired the feature rights to Paulo Coelho's epic novel The Alchemist from Warner Brothers. Ambitiously, Fishburne has plans to write and direct the feature himself.
The story centers on a young Spaniard who embarks on a quest to find a hidden treasure within the Egyptian pyramids. Since its debut in 1988, the novel has sold more than 40 million copies in over 150 countries.
Very ambitious project here for Fishburne. Warner Brothers struggled to get this novel off the ground after several years and dozens of attempts and for an actor who has only helmed and written one previous movie (Once in the Life, which didn't go down very well with audiences) to come along and grab the rights... well all you can think of saying is "good luck". Anyone read this epic novel and care to tell us more about it? source - variety
