Flatliners Review: 3 Ups & 8 Downs

A sub-par remake nobody asked for.

The "sequel" to the 1990 cult classic thriller Flatliners is out in cinemas now, and to the surprise of just about nobody, it wasn't actually screened for most of the worldwide press, with Sony surely realising they had a dud on their hands.

At the time of press, the film is sitting on or around the rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and with damn good reason. Though not quite the one-star dumpster fire you might've been anticipating, the new Flatliners is nevertheless a cynical, misguided attempt to reheat the original film's success for another milk of the cash cow.

There are a few surprisingly effective moments throughout, sure, but for the most part it falls down in every way that matters, and will likely leave you wondering how such a messy production actually made its way into cinemas.

Hollywood, please learn from this that remaking classic movies from three decades ago almost never works...
