Good Will Hunting: 5 Reasons It's Matt Damon's Finest Film

4. Damon's Best Behind the Scenes Work

good will hunting oscar It's easy to forget that Damon the Actor was once Damon the Writer. Much like Stallone except without the biceps and that drooping jaw and a need to yell, "Adrian!!!" Sorry, gotta fit that in where I can. Anyway, 'Hunting' was based on a script written by Damon and his best friend Ben Affleck and it remains the best proof of what Damon has to offer beyond his talents in front of the camera. Since 'Hunting,' Damon has co-written a few more scripts, dabbled in producing and expressed interest in directing, but 'Hunting' remains his best behind the scenes work to date. I mean, are the scripts for 'Promised Land' or 'Gerry' really even comparable? If one thing made 'Good Will Hunting' stand out above the rest, it was the near perfect script that touched on everything from machismo to childhood struggles to real relationships. It was the script that turned Patch Adams into one of the most lovable and strong mentors on screen and gave both Damon and Affleck and even the mysterious Minnie Driver a chance to display real emotion and some of their best work to date. It's the script that had such a great concept, it would go on to inspire a hilarious scene in a movie like 'Step Brothers!' If that's not enough proof of the script's and Damon's brilliance then I don't know what is.
