Guardians Of The Galaxy: 6 Ways It Could Link In With Other Movies

Guardians Of The Galaxy is released August 1st.

The Marvel cinematic universe is constantly expanding with every movie, with new characters and new concepts being introduced relentlessly. Guardians of the Galaxy, coming this August, is Marvel's most ambitious project yet and is so far removed from anything attempted before that it makes people wonder how the heck it's going to connect to the rest of this particular continuity. But there are an abundance of ways in which it could seamlessly link in with the wider universe - both in terms of what we've already seen up to now and what is yet to come. It works in the comics so there's no reason why it can't work on screen. The Thor movie - admittedly not being quite as far removed from the rest of the Marvel cinematic universe as the weird mix of alien beings we're going to be seeing in Guardians of the Galaxy - introduced an alien civilisation in to a world in which, up until that point, only really had the armoured Iron Man and gamma-mutated Hulk (and their supporting characters), in terms of "out of the ordinary" entities, so it can be done. With that in mind, here are six ways in which Guardians of the Galaxy could link in with other Marvel cinematic universe movies and, subsequently, fit in seamlessly with the wider universe...

Honourable Mention: Mid-Credits & Post-Credits Scenes

In any Marvel movie, the mid-credits and post-credits scenes ensure that links can be made with any future movie - they don't even have to be slightly connected to the movie you've just sat and watched. Anyone who remembers the post-credits scene in Iron Man 2, when Mjolnir was shown to have landed in the New Mexico desert, despite absolutely no hint of Thor having been given in the entirety of the Marvel cinematic universe up until that point, will be aware of that. The Incredible Hulk came to a climax with a cameo from Tony Stark, who told General Ross that a team was being put together. That film had otherwise made no references to Tony Stark or the Avengers. Guardians of the Galaxy itself was alluded to at the end of Thor: The Dark World, when the Collector appeared in Asgard, with no prior links to the movie having been displayed. Essentially, the mid-credits and post-credits scenes, as always, could link to anything - whether it's a film we've already seen, another upcoming film, such as Ant-Man, or a film we are yet to have heard about. And now on to the actual list...
