Guardians Of The Galaxy - What Did You Think?

Did Marvel's space-based gamble pay off for you?

Marvel have been knocking it out of the park with their Cinematic Universe so far, bending the Hollywood blockbuster to the whims of their iconic superhero characters. Now they've decided to make a bizarre, gonzo sci-fi film about a team nobody's heard of, starring a sitcom actor and an animated, talking raccoon. By all reports Guardians Of The Galaxy, which hits cinemas today, is all set to be another box office smash in the vein of the Avengers flicks. Marvel themselves are projecting a $70 million opening weekend, initial reviews are glowing, and they've already had the nerve to announce a sequel for July 2017. We've been hooked on the feeling of Guardians Of The Galaxy ever since we saw it (see our review here) and that appears to be the critical consensus across the board. Right now the film is sitting at a very respectable 90% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the well-drawn and original characters, the stunning visuals, the surprisingly sharp humour and - of course - the gloriously cheesy seventies pop soundtrack. It's certainly a different sort of MCU film then we're used to seeing, and Guardians doesn't tie into the other Marvel superhero flicks in the same way - can it scale the heights of The Winter Soldier or Iron Man 3, in that case? Because important though the box office returns and the reviews are, what really matters is the opinion of the fans. The Guardians Of The Galaxy might be fairly niche but the Marvel Cinematic Universe has its own dedicated following of fanboys - so what did you guys think? Did you like the expansion of the Marvel movies to encompass the cosmos? Did Chris Pratt work as a leading man? How about the more humorous tone, even compared to the Iron Men films?
