Gugino Joins Watchmen

Watchmen cast is quickly coming together - see his line-up so far (along with that of previous directors) here - and now news comes from Superherohype that Carla Gugino is joining the gang of dysfunctional superheroes. Gugino will play Sally Jupiter, mother to Malin Akerman's Laurie. Being that Sally was the original Silk Spectre in the comic we can expect to see Gugino squeeze into a saucy spandex uniform as part of the Minutemen, the crime-fighting gang that preceded the group of heroes Watchmen focuses on. Like the rest of the cast Gugino is a tad young for the part (she would probably have been a good pick for Laurie) but Snyder is intending to age his cast up and down throughout the course of the film to avoid using different actors. Gugino was last seen canoodling with Vincent Chase in Entourage and will soon feature in Ridley Scott's American Gangster. With that movie and now Watchmen, it seems Gugino is finally getting rewarded after years of frequently appearing as window dressing, in axed TV shows and lame blockbusters.
