Guillermo del Toro turned down Narnia?

1152803825_0.jpgA very interesting article has turned up over at CNN, regarding director Guillermo del Toro in which he claims he turned down the chance of directing The Chronicles of Narnia. He turned down the job because as a Catholic, "he couldn't see himself bringing Aslan (the lion) back to life". He went on further to say.... "I do think there is far more an immoral position in creating a movie like 'Free Willy,' where I'm telling a kid, you know, 'If you swim next to a ... killer whale, she'll become your friend.' ... No! She will eat your ... guts and spit you out!""If my child watches my movies by accident, they will not try to think the world is a safe place, which it's not. Children should know the dangers of the world and not be neurotically isolated from them." Those last two quotes are certainly reflected in some scenes of his last movie Pan's Labyrinth. So we can only imagine what a Del Toro directed Narnia would have turned out like. There's little doubt it would have been more interesting than Andrew Adamson's lackluster job but it would have probably pissed off a lot of the book's fans as Del Toro wouldn't be able to help himself from putting in his own trademark signatures and probably deviate from the story. Del Toro is much better suited to creating his own dark fantasy story which more reflects his personality such as Pan's Labyrinth or even Tarzan. Give me those movies any day of the week over a Del Toro imagined Narnia. But he's a smart guy. He knows this already, and he made exactly the right choice directing the movie he wanted to make. source - cnn, rope of silicon
