Halle Berry to play a lawyer in Tulia

hh.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter are running the news that Halle Berry has been cast as a lawyer who investigates the arrests of 46 black men in Texas back in 1999. The thing is, when all was said and done it was pointless as no money, drugs or illegal weapons were found on the suspects. High Crimes director Carl Franklin is in talks to direct the picture. More info from Coming Soon... The story is based on the nonfiction book "Tulia: Race, Cocaine, and Corruption in a Small Texas Town" by Nate Blakeslee. Karen Croner wrote the screenplay.......Berry will portray the lead attorney for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, which intervened to free the citizens wrongly convicted based on one crooked cop's testimony. Berry, who I believe is far more famous than her talent really deserves is finally making some smart choices in her career. This is the fourth powerfully charged drama (on paper anyway) that she has on her upcoming slate, which will do have more for her career than Catwomen and X-Men 3 which have never suited her. Production is set to begin on May 1st. source - coming soon, the hollywood reporter
