After the release of Halloween 5 in 1989, the producers found themselves struggling to craft a sequel that would tie up all the dangling plot threads from that film. Eventually, they recruited Daniel Farrands, a long-time fan of the franchise, to write a script that would not only tie these loose ends up but also delve deeper into the mythology of Michael Myers than ever before.

The result is Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, a film that's primary narrative is focused on the Cult of Thorn, an evil cult who has been secretly following Michael and looking after him ever since he committed his first murder as a child.

If that sounds kind of bad, well, it is.

Seeing Michael reduced to a pawn in a large-scale story about Celtic runes and underground cults isn't compelling in the least. It certainly doesn't help matters that the film is plagued by a litany of other issues from bland characters, stale performances, and butcherous editing. Ultimately, the film reshot so much of its runtime that there are now two different cuts of the film, the Theatrical and the Producer's Cut. Sadly, both of them are just varying levels of bad.

If there's one saving grace in this film though, it is the cinematic debut of Paul 'Steven' Rudd as Tommy Doyle. Rudd spends the first two-thirds of the film slouched over and giving a stuttering and odd performance but seems to realize the quality of the film he's in in the third act and winds up giving us incredible moments of acting like the one above.
