Han Solo Movie: Everything You Need To Know

8. … Without Spoiling The Enigma

During a Director's Guild Of America Q&A in 2015, Lawrence Kasdan clarified that his Han Solo movie "will not be, 'Here's where he was born and this is how he was raised.'" Although there might be a "glimpse" or two of his past, the bulk of the film will take place "like ten years earlier" than A New Hope.

This suggests that there won't be scenes with Han as a young kid, being taught how to smuggle cargo, annoy space slugs and shoot Rodians in cantinas. This should come as a huge relief to fans, who won't want the enigmatic air of this character to be spoiled in a prequel (in the same way that it's a tad hard to take Darth Vader seriously once you've heard his younger rolling around with Natalie Portman).

Explaining his writing process to The LA Times, Kasdan said he's imagining Han "in his early 20s. What was he like before he hardened up? Before he had some setbacks? Before he put on this cynical coat? What got him there?” So this will be an adult Han on a journey to becoming a hard nut with a cynical streak, but not a baby Han and his first blaster. Thank god for that.
