Harley Quinn Creator Says Her Suicide Squad Look Is "Really Cool"

Well, he would know...

The appearance of Harley Quinn has been one of the most talked about aspects of the recently released Suicide Squad lineup shot, and now a rather authoritative voice on the matter has weighed in on the issue: Bruce Timm, the man who helped create her. Timm, along with Paul Dini, created Quinn for Batman: The Animated Series over 20 years, and the character has since gone to be one of the most popular across DC comics, animations and video games. It's fair to say there's a lot of anticipation for her big-screen debut, with Margot Robbie cast in the role. While that has been met with rather unanimous praise, the costume has been rather more divisive. Some have really dug the look, while others have commented on how it looks simply like bad cosplay. Timm, however, said that the picture made him optimistic, and admitted that although he was nervous to see it, he thought it looked "really cool." In the interview with io9, he also revealed more about Quinn's development from a one-joke character, and that, regardless of her backstory, there's one thing she must always be:

"I think bottomline her stories always have to be fun, if not flat out hilarious (but that would be even better)... She€™s really weird and funny and kind of chaotic."
Although there's little doubting Robbie has the chops to pull that off, whether that's an approach to the character the film taking is difficult to tell just from still images (admittedly the baseball bat and 'Daddy's Little Monster' top do point in that direction). And if that's enough to make her co-creator optimistic, then maybe everyone else should be too.
