Hayden Christensen signs up for Poker film

180px-HaydenChristensen.jpgHayden Christensen has signed on to star in The Madison Kid, a biopic following the life of Phil Helmuth who became the youngest World Champion of Poker in 1989 at the age of 24. He beat the two-time defending champion Johnny Chan and was nicknamed the "Poker Brat" because of his inflated ego. Helmuth's father (a college professor at the same campus as his son) as you might expect, was aganist him dropping out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison to take up the game full time. After earning over $8 million in earnings though, I'm sure his father would agree it was the right career choice. Sounds like a fun tale, these stories are only interesting when they about real people. Watching those poker scenes in Casino Royale weren't all that interesting because as we all know it's scripted, so we can't get emotionally involved in the drama of the hands. Although if you have read this post, then you know the guy wins. Oh well. Shooting stars in May but no director is attached as of yet. source - production weekly, empire
