HMV To Accept Gift Cards From Tomorrow

hmv Deloitte have backtracked on their decision to not accept HMV gift cards. As of tomorrow, Tuesday 22nd January, all HMV stores will accept store credit as normal. This follows the highly unpopular decision to no longer accept pre-paid HMV gift cards and vouchers after it was announced that the popular high street retailer would be going into administration early last week. The move is considered a victory for consumer rights and for public opinion. The decision to block gift cards and to stop honouring store credit, even in cases where products were faulty, was met with much derision from the general public. In one store Eric Nolan, an angry grandfather, stormed out of the shop with three games he felt he was entitled to after paying for a gift card prior to Christmas. There has also been reported pressure from the Government after Deloitte acted differently when they were also called in to administrate Blockbuster, who are facing similar problems to HMV, last week. In related news, it is looking increasingly likely that some parts of the chain may be bailed out by Hilco but no official announcement has been made. source - bbc news
