The Hobbit: 10 Deaths To Expect In The Battle Of The Five Armies

9. The Master of Lake-Town

In Tolkien's novel, the Master of Lake-town manages to survive both Smaug's attack and the Battle of the Five Armies, weaseling his way out of any sort of blame by turning his people against Thorin and the dwarves. After the clash is over, Bard gives the Master gold for the sake of helping the people of Lake-town, only for the Master to succumb to greed and leave with the gold. Ultimately, after being abandoned by his own group, he dies alone of starvation. With so many fish to fry in this final chapter of the trilogy, it's hard to imagine that much time will be devoted to following what happens with the Master. In order to expedite his inevitable fate, we wouldn't be surprised if he bites the dust at some point during the war, perhaps in an attempt to sneak away. Regardless of how his death comes, it's sure to be a fitting one born of his own greed.
