The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug - 10 Reasons It's Going To Be The Best Movie In The Trilogy

9. It's Not The Last Film Either

False End Again, bear with me for stating what seems like the obvious. As we saw from The Return of the King (and then, even more so from the extended version) Jackson loves his endings. So much so that he puts in six false endings, to the point where you don't know if you can trust the appearance of the end credits or whether Sam's going to pop up again for another post-script. Again, as a fan, I do kind of like these as I'm pretty much happy to sit in front of anything that keeps me in the world of Middle-Earth for a little longer. However, I understand that for most people the endings shouldn't run on for nigh on twenty minutes. However, again, The Desolation of Smaug being the middle film, Jackson doesn't need to have a heart-wrenching farewell for these characters that lasts forever. We know they're back next year (hurrah!) so he doesn't have to give the fans a tearful goodbye sequence that will feed their devotion until he finds the next bit of the Tolkien estate he wants to adapt.
