How Spider-Man Can Exit The MCU (And Then Continue Without It)

There are several next steps that Sony could take.

Unfortunately for fans of the MCU, it seems that Disney and Sony are at an impasse regarding the special arrangement they had surrounding the character of Spider-Man - meaning that the hero may not be appearing in Marvel's cinematic empire for much longer.

To be fair to Sony, the deal that Disney requested was really quite ridiculous, so it is not as though the company's response to the Mouse House wasn't justified, it's just a shame that arguably the best live action incarnation of Peter Parker may soon be removed from the universe that added a great deal to his mythos.

Though, there are two main questions that arise from this: one, how will the wall-crawler exit the MCU and, two, how will the character continue without it?

Here are some ideas, in the event that the negotiations between the two film giants end with a disappointing result for fans.

7. How He Can Exit: Simply Have Him Retire

Perhaps a bit of a simplistic solution, having Peter Parker retire from being a superhero would make it so that other heroes would not need to mention him, but also leave the door open for him to return to the Avengers should Sony and Disney come to another agreement later down the line.

Whatever the case, there are two ways this could happen:

The first would only be possible were Sony able to set the next Spidey film within the MCU (and therefore be able to use other MCU characters), with Peter seeking out Doctor Strange to use his magic to make everyone completely forget his secret identity, allowing him to live a normal life.

The second would be a bit more messy, requiring the next movie to make as little references to the MCU as possible (something which would be incredibly difficult seeing how intertwined with the rest of the universe the Spider-Man movies are) but contain a threat large enough to Peter's loved ones that he would feel the need to stop being the web-head to protect his friends & family.

Sony would then be free to use the character in non-MCU related adventures.
