Hugh Jackman Would Keep Playing Wolverine, If X-Men Were A Part Of The MCU

Someone tell Kevin Feige to get on the phone to Fox pronto!

With Logan's release imminent, Hugh Jackman is hanging up the adamantium claws for good. By all accounts it's going to be a fitting farewell for the actor, who has spent the last 17 years playing Wolverine, but it all could've been quite different.

While Jackman poured scorn on the idea of a Wolverine/Deadpool movie earlier this week, stating that he really was done, one thing could've changed his mind: the X-Men being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking to Screen Rant, the actor touches on the subject of a crossover happening, and admits if it were an option then Logan likely wouldn't have been his last Wolverine movie:

"If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That’s for sure. Because I always love the idea of him within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there’s a lot of smarter people with MBAs who can’t figure that out [laughter]. You never know."

He then touches on the topic of Old Man Logan, citing Unforgiven as an inspiration, and joking about the lack of Hulk babies in Logan. He then circles back round to the MCU, adding:

"At the moment, honestly, if I really did have them there, I probably wouldn’t have said this is the last. It just feels like this is the right time [to leave the character]."

It's certainly a tempting thought. While Fox aren't likely to relinquish the rights to X-Men (or even Fantastic Four) anytime soon, it would've been great had they agreed a deal with Marvel that allowed characters like Wolverine to crossover, much like the deal with Sony that has seen Spider-Man join the MCU. Jackman alongside those characters would've been great to see, but at least we're getting a potentially great goodbye to him as it is.
