Ian McKellan to narrate Stardust

ianmckellen.jpgRemember when the first Lord of the Rings movie was in production, Ian McKellan was all set to narrate as Gandalf (even I think, going so far as recording the whole thing) before at the last minute Cate Blanchett was given the job. Well, he's going to get another opportunity at the voice-over gig for Matthew Vaughn's fantasy movie Stardust. More info on the movie from Coming Soon... Stardust, based on Neil Gaiman's novel, centers on a young man who promises his beloved that he will retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the Faerie realm, where he encounters witches, goblins, gnomes, talking animals and evil trees. McKellan will be narrating what is a rather diverse cast that includes Clare Danes, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sienna Miller, Charlie Cox and Ricky Gervais! I've never been able to get into Neil Gaiman's literary work and this film seems a strange choice for a follow-up to directing Layer Cake. Though with McKellan narrating, if the movie is bad at least it will sound elegant. source - the hollywood reporter, coming soon
