Hobbs and Shaw sounds better and better.

As if the prospect of a Fast & Furious spin-off movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham wasn't exciting enough, another big name has been added to the cast.

As per a report from Variety, and later confirmed by The Rock himself, Idris Elba is onboard Hobbs & Shaw as the film's main villain. No other details about his character have been revealed, but he will be going up against both special agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw (Statham).

Elba's no stranger to playing villains in major blockbusters, but hopefully this one will come off a lot better than his turn in Star Trek Beyond, and his charisma should mesh well with his co-stars.

The film, which comes after eight instalments in the main series, is set to be directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2) with a script from Chris Morgan (who has written every Fast & Furious movie since Tokyo Drift). The Crown's Vanessa Kirby is also set to star, taking on the role of Shaw's sister.

Hobbs and Shaw is currently scheduled for release on July 26, 2019.
