Independence Day: Resurgence's New Trailer Is Ridiculously Stupid (And Kinda Fun)

"It makes its own gravity." WHAT?!

It may have taken twenty years and cost him Will Smith, but Roland Emmerich has finally got to make his Independence Day sequel, which thankfully is a) no longer in two parts and b) not called ID4eva (yup, that was the serious working title).

A new trailer's hit and it's dumb. Really dumb. There's a massive spaceship in here that has stronger gravity than Earth. "They to get the landmarks," exhaustedly remarks Jeff Goldblum. There's a monologue where Bill Pullman remarks, "We convinced an entire generation...", laying Emmerich's cards right on the table.

And then there's the character relations. Liam Hemsworth is dating Maika Monroe, who is the daughter of Bill Pullman, but Jeff Goldblum appears to be some sort of surrogate father for him. Move over Star Wars.

It looks stupid, and would be the most bonkers movie that decimated London this year if we hadn't already got London Has Fallen.

But I'd be lying if I'm not a bit excited for this (and I'm onemember of that previous generation who wasn't convinced). It's a fun throwback with modern sensibilities and, if it is actually Emmerich returning to former glories, could be a fun ride. What do you think? Check out the trailer below and have your say.
