It's been seven years since the release of Angels & Demons, Ron Howard's second adaptation of a Robert Langdonnovel by the hugely successful yet critically maligned author Dan Brown

Now, the third installment in the franchise has been given its first teaser trailer, which you can watch here:

With Howard once again taking on directing duties and David Koepp returning as writer after penning Angels & Demons, Inferno also marks the return of Tom Hanks asalong with a string of new faces. The Theory Of Everything's Felicity Jones is set to co-star alongside Hanks as Dr. Sienna Brooks, who helps Langdon escape from an Italian hospital after he awakes suffering from amnesia.

Additional cast members include Jurassic World's Irrfan Khan as Harry "The Provost" Sims and Sidse Babett Knudsen (€œBorgen€) as head of the World Health Organization Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey. Ben Foster, who recently appeared in the rescue drama The Finest Hours, is set to appear as Inferno's central villain.

While previous adaptations of Dan Brown's novels by Ron Howard have taken a drubbing from critics, their box office returns tell a different story, with the release of Inferno likely to repeat their successes by sticking to the familiar formula fans have now come to expect. Langdon must once again dash from city to city in a race against time to foil a plot to destroy the world, this time focusing on clues based on Dante's highly respected Inferno (the first part of his epic 14th century poem Comedy) and the looming threat of a global plague.
