Iron Man 3 Super Bowl Trailer: 5 Things We Learned

4. Mandarin's Rings Do Something, Or So It Seems

Mandarin RIngs The first trailer merely teased the Mandarin's rings, showing a close-up without explanation or even a linked sequence that we could take anything from - so in the period after the trailer's release, there was some heavy debate as to whether the rings would actually be empowered. Just after the extended look sequence, we see the now familiar sight of Iron Man hitting the ground and de-masking, and then there's a "colourfully edited" mid-sequence in which we see a series of engaging explosions designed to dial everything up to 11. It would be easy to dismiss it all as simple ornamentation, but there seems to have been a very deliberate decision to have Mandarin make a gesture with his ringed hands just at the point of explosion. Obviously it's not a linear sequence, but the trailer makers appear to have decided to answer that particular question outright.
