JACKASS 2.5 getting online release

IESB, JACKASS 2.5 is getting an exclusive online release. Ignoring theatres completely, Johnny Knoxville and the gang are going digital. IESB says:-

"Details are sketchy but the IESB has been able to talk to various Paramount sources who have all verified the next installment will not have a theatrical release.
"Jackass: The Movie was able to bring in a box office haul of over $79 million in world wide receipts with a production budget of around 5 million dollars and its sequel pulled in approximately $85 million in world wide receipts with a production budget of 11.5 million."
The site raises an interesting point later on. How will this movie make any money? On one hand the film will have a low budget and Paramount won't have to worry about the costs of putting a film into cinemas but on the other, once you put something into the digital world, even with digital rights protection, there will be a huge risk of piracy harming the film. If I had to guess (and this is a crass generalisation), I would say the target audience for JACKASS are the kind of people who maybe aren't always going to play things by the book. Why would they pay for a digital copy when it's out there for free and in good quality? It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, if it's a big success we might see more of this type of thing in the future. JACKASS is perfect to be delivered in this format, however that isn't the case for every film. source - iesb
