James Bond duo writing Barbarella remake

barbarella01.jpgBack in February, Dino De Laurentiis the producer of both the original Barbarella and the upcoming remake, described the character as being €œFemale James Bond €” in outer space€. So what has the producer done? He's gone out and hired Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to pen the script for the Barbarella remake. The duo wrote the latest James Bond movie Casino Royale. The producer has been speaking about the movie again, this time to Variety...
"Barbarella is the ultimate science-fiction adventure heroine: smart, strong funny and sexy...I'm excited to reintroduce Barbarella to a new generation of moviegoers."
It's said that De Laurentiis was impressed by the way the Bond writers stayed true to the original source material of 007 and also how they updated the character and modernized him for a new generation of fans. The trade are also reporting that the duo will work on Barbarella next, as they have recently turned in their script for Bond 22. Hannbial Rising helmer Peter Webber will direct the flick, but the lead has yet to be cast. Barbarella was of course played by the ultra-sexy Jane Fonda in the ultra campy sex-filled 60's original. source - variety
