James Bond: Ranking The Theme Songs From Worst To Best

15. Moonraker - Shirley Bassey

Moonraker

Description: Before anyone asks, "Moonraker" is the shuttle class that baddie Hugo Drax possessed. How Ian Fleming came up with the name, I'll never know; though one could guess he had a slight interest in gardening out in space. Regardless, Dame Shirley Bassey delivered her third and final Bond theme with the style that one would come to expect from someone of her stature. Is it an odd fit for a Bond film? Yes, very much so. However it doesn't take away from the beauty of the song itself, despite the fact that this would set the game up for future ill advised songs involving romantic longing and super spying. It should be damned and praised in the same breath. Choice Lyrics: "Just like the Moonraker goes, in search of his dreams Gold/I search for Love, for someone to have and hold." This specific sentiment right here is the border between Action Bond and Sensitive Bond, and if it were anyone other than Dame Shirley, it'd be a very hard sell. But the woman is practically musical royalty, and her styling of the song navigates the tough waters laid out ahead.
