James McAvoy: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

5 Performances That Were Awesome...

5. Rory O'Shea - Inside I€™m Dancing

Roryo Stl06 Directed by Damien O'Donnell in 2004, Inside I€™m Dancing featured James McAvoy as Rory O€™Shea, an angry, nihilistic man who suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy which leaves him with mobility in only two fingers. The plot follows Rory as he enters a residential home and encounters Michael, who struggles to talk and thus his speech is seemingly unintelligible to everyone. However, Rory is able to understand him and the two bond. While the film is far from perfect, it contains an undeniably charismatic and fierce performance from McAvoy, who juxtaposes anger and rebellion against the secondary characters within the film. Michael is an innocent, mild-mannered individual who has never encountered someone like Rory, whose profanity laden speech, outbursts of anger and rebellious nature allows a good contrast to form between the characters. While the screenplay doesn€™t focus on the true realities of their condition, instead opting for a more €œHollywood€ version of events, McAvoy is able to push the material farther than it deserves, with his performance resonating the anger that Rory feels, allowing the audience to understand without it becoming deluding or sentimental.
