Jared Leto's Going To Make Up For The Joker With Blade Runner 2

Surprise late casting in Denis Villeneuve's sequel.

If Jared Leto had been cast in Blade Runner 2 a year ago everyone would have been deliriously excited; here's an actor with a very selective approach to projects who only signs on when he gets a proper "character" to sink his teeth into, just coming off the back of an undisputedly deserved Oscar win.

Now, in August 2016, it's all Joker gags: "It's too bad she won't live. I only wanted to hurt her really, really bad"; "All these moments will be lost in time, like scenes in a DC movie"; photoshops with "Replicant" on his forehead. The thing is, just because he was awful in Suicide Squad (and, make no mistake, Mr J was awful in David Ayer's damp squib of a "bad guy" flick) doesn't mean this is bad news at all; Leto's a proven talent with proper name recognition, and while his turn as the Clown Prince was misjudged, a lot of it does come down to that film's editing.

I'm pretty damn amped for Denis Villeneuve's sequel, which is produced by Alcon Entertainment (Blade Runner's in my #7favfilms), and this is another bit of stellar casting. And that has nothing to do with my excitement over Harrison Ford's reaction to getting sent used condoms.
