John Carter, the early summer blockbuster is now in cinemas and as it has been such a hotly anticipated movie, is such an important project for Disney because of the money they have spent on it, and because our review of the film garnered so much discussion, we’ve created this post to hear your feedback on the movie.
Disney’s fantasy adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ sci-fi novel cost a whopping $250 million to make and Disney are banking on the expensive special effects and world threatening plot to the universe they have created to bring in the masses for what is a movie led mostly by unknowns.
Taylor Kitsch stars as John Carter, a war-weary, former military captain who is transported to Mars where he must save the world on the brink of collapse. Lynn Collins has the love interest role as the Princess Dejah Torris with more familiar names supporting the movie in Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Sammantha Morton, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Haden Church and more.
The film is the live-action directorial debut of Wall-E director Andrew Stanton.
Our very own Rob Beames reviewed John Carter last week and scored the movie 3 and a half stars out of five, calling it a “Lovingly Made Pulp Fantasy With Boring Human Characters”. You can read our review HERE.
But what did you think? Did you love the movie, are you planning on seeing it this weekend or have the trailers reminded you too much of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace to bother seeing it!
We would love to hear your thoughts below…

I saw this in a preview last weekend and have to say I really enjoyed it! Everything was there that I’ve come to expect from an Andrew Stanton film, admittedly the script fell a little flat at times but it sooned regained it’s focus. I’ve read a couple of reviews saying they found it a bit boring and there wasn’t enough action but I think there was a nice balance between action and story telling! It goes without saying that the effects are incredible and at least on a par with Avatar in! If you go in expecting a modern sci-fi with endless action then you’re going to be disappointed but if you view it more like the classic sci-fi films like Star Wars (Original 3) & Flash Gordon then you’ll really enjoy it!
Saw it last night and really enjoyed it too. I was grinning like a child throughout the action scene that John catches Dejah Thoris in mid-air for the first time, the special effects in that were stunning, on a par with Avatar. The 3D in places was superb. Really enjoyed overall, but did feel it could have done with an edit to reduce the running time, as it dragged alittle bit in places. The actress who plays Dejah Thoris is amazing and star has been born, Princess Leia you have been fired !
Really Disney. Don’t you read. We are not in need of another white hero that comes to save the marginalized barbarians. Have you not learned a thing from the decades of critical analysis that your empire has been afforded through the evolution of our culture. Please grow up and step up to the level of consciousness that we as a race are evolving into. The woman of color does not need saving by the white man from the “civilized world” How bout the story where the patriarch bound in a prison of institutionalized racism hetero-sexism and gender-polarization is freed by the magical intersex Pegganarwal. Ok maybe that’s a bit to advanced for you. But seriously could we see some progress away from the stone age. inst
Kaki — you’re a racist bigot, as well as being an absolute idiot. What we really “don’t need” are people like you. Do the world a favor — reach up out of the toilet bowl & flush yourself.
Well said Kaki… we have our eyes open to the re-hash of the same old story. Americana reigns supreme and saves everyone in a world of war! Embrace it you fools or suffer the consequences. Peace in our time? Films like this are dangerous and stunt human evolution. For sure.
Good movie, I caught the midnight opening Thursday night at midnight and again Friday and both timew the theaters were full. Afterwards the crowds were happy and talkative about the movie, it reminded me of the reaction to Star Wars in the 70′s.
It seems that too many sites want to trash the movie as a flop but the reaction of those seeing the film overrides that.
