John Cena Talks Accidental Boners, Suicide Squad Casting And Retirement (Again)

"It’s what the body does. You can’t be blamed for that.”

It's a perfectly natural, normal thing and it happens to everyone at one time or another. Well, maybe not everyone, but a fair slice of the world's population, at the very least. It's just still a little strange to hear John Cena talking about retirement all the time.

Oh and boners, obviously.

Hot on the tail of news that Cena's been discussing retirement in the wake of Goldberg and The Undertaker's match in Saudi Arabia to TMZ, he also appeared on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live” to talk about it again. And while the suggestion of his chat to TMZ was that he's thinking about retirement, Cena's comments when asked by a caller when he might retire were fairly enthusiastically against it.

“That’s a tough question ’cause I don’t think I’ll ever be disconnected from the WWE. I think whether it’s an on-camera role or an off-camera role, I don’t think the word ‘retire,’ I’ll ever use that. So I know that time is limited because it’s a physical, performance-based thing, and I’m 42. So I know that window is kind of coming to a close, but I don’t think I’ll ever be retired. I would love to be able to pass on the knowledge and wisdom that I have about live performances to up-and-comers and hopefully help people out.”

So should we expect Cena to go full Ric Flair then? Let's be honest, it all probably depends on how his movie career goes, and speaking of which, he's also been talking to TheWrap recently about his possible involvement in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. He refers to the film as “a tremendous opportunity for growth” and dropped a strong hint that the rumours are true and he's signed on:

"You have to get everything buttoned up before you can make it official, I don’t want to say anything … I will just say that if that opportunity presents itself, then I will be very grateful to take it."

In slightly less career-focused details, his appearance with Andy Cohen took a swerve towards more bodily concerns as he was asked whether he'd ever had an “accidental boner” in the ring:

“It’s something the body does, you just ignore it. Just ignore it. It’s what the body does. You can’t be blamed for that.”

An interesting confession. And it wasn't the only strange revelation, as Cena also revealed that sometimes it takes him more than half an hour to shave himself ("There’s a lot of body. Hair will grow almost anywhere") and that the thing he finds “most swoon-worthy thing” about The Rock is “His perspective on life and his ability to constantly give back.” Oh and he cries at The Truman Show.

Whether you ever thought you'd need any of that information is anyone's guess, to be honest, but there it is.
