A few plot details from The Joker origin movie have already been outed, albeit from a third-hand source in the shape of MMA fighter-turned-comedian Brendan Schaub.

Schaub is best buds with Todd Phillips's agent Todd Feldman, who has supposedly shared a few nuggets of information about the screenplay in progress with him.

During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, the martial artist described the Joker movie script as "dark" and revealed it will shed light on the villain's childhood, during which he was bullied for having a permanent smile etched onto his face.

There's a massive red flag right here, because nobody should be empathising with the Clown Prince of Crime. Rooting for him against their better judgement, sure, but relatability is a leap of faith too far.

The Joker has won over an army of fans with his devilish charm and charisma alone. He doesn't need a childhood sob story to bring pathos to the equation because we already accept him as an inhuman force of chaos.

The bullying subplot sounds, worrying, like an attempt to justify some of the murderous deeds the villain has committed over the years, despite the established lore positioning him as far beyond redemption.
