Julianne Moore: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

5 Awesome Performances...

5. Jules Allgood €“ The Kids Are All Right

Playing one half of a lesbian couple living in California, Julianne Moore clearly relishes her role in this indie drama that revolves around the couple dealing with the fact that they have to tell their kids about the sperm donor who fathered them. It's a quirky little movie that doesn't take itself too seriously but balances humour and drama well enough that it feels realistic. What makes her performance so brilliant is the simple fact that Moore and Bening create such a loving and caring relationship that you believe they've been together for years, which is more than can be said for some actual couples who've acted on screen together. Moore plays the typical "cool" parent of the two and is a much more forgiving mother than Bening, but they do create a wonderful dynamic. When Moore's affair with her sperm donor threatens the family dynamic, she plays the torn-between-two-lovers storyline part with distinction, enlivening what could've been a horrible cliche, albeit with a novel, 21st century twist.
