Justice League Review: 4 Ups & 7 Downs

6. The CGI Is Abysmal

It's mind-boggling that a $300 million movie can look this ugly. The visual effects throughout are incredibly disappointing, from Steppenwolf's naff, video game-esque renderings, to Cyborg's dull, overly busy design, and yes, the digital shaving of Henry Cavill's mustache in post-production, which gives him a distractingly offputting CGI mouth.

This is a movie where almost every shot has CGI elements in it, and while the more subdued ones work, especially the depiction of The Flash's Speedforce, overall it's just too much of a muchness.

There are so many digital images that break the immersion, be it random shots of Aquaman clearly standing in front of a green screen, presumably from hurried reshoots, or blurry battles that better resemble a movie struggling to make the most of, say, a $100 million budget.

Considering that all the DCEU movies have had CGI problems, this really needs to be the tipping point where Warner Bros. switches VFX vendors, because here the effects look routinely atrocious.
