Justice League Trailer Reactions
Warner Bros.

It's almost inevitable that the first trailer for Justice League would cause a stir of some kind on release. Given the very specific context it came out of - the whispers of Warner Bros' discontent with the director, wider studio struggles and their track record for making great trailers for bad movies - that much was never going to be a surprise.

But even with a queue of cynics waiting to heap criticism on it, the trailer actually does almost everything you could ask of it. It might be somewhat light on plot detail, but in an age defined by spoilerific, ruinous marketing that in itself is refreshing, and all it really needed to do was show off the characters, establish their powers and hype the spectacle.

And though it takes a fairly cautious approach to story detail, there are lots of revelations in there: we see three cameos, there are a number of Easter Eggs and a brand new Bat-vehicle. All positive strikes, but it absolutely was not without flaws, which are as worthy of assessment as the moments that will have left DC fanboys beating their chests in joy.

First, to the problems...
