Legendary Pictures To Slay Dragons

Studio have acquired the spec script ‘Slayer’, a modern day action fantasy from first time writer Martin Helgeland.

Dragons have had somewhat of tepid history on the big screen, rarely igniting it (sorry) the way they should do. After the atrocities of efforts such as €˜Dungeons and Dragons€™ and €˜Eragon€™ it seemed that the foul beasts would be long dead and buried. But with the likes of the video game €˜Skyrim€™ and to an extent HBO's €˜Game of Thrones€™ the mythological creatures are making some sort of a comeback because now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that Legendary Pictures has acquired the spec script €˜Slayer€™ from first time writer Martin Helgeland, the son of Academy Award winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River). The younger Helgeland is currently still a student at Loyola Marymount University in LA and seemingly bashed out the spec script in between classes. A modern day action fantasy film, €˜Slayer€™ follows a young doctor who after dealing with the loss of his estranged father, discovers that his old man was in fact a bona fide dragon slayer and discovers that he himself is in fact that last in a long line of dragon slayers. Guess his old man forgot to mention that in the will. Alex Garcia and Alex Hedlund are overseeing the project for Legendary, which will fall under Legendary€™s overall agreement with Warner Bros. Brian Helgeland is also on board as executive producer.
