2. Scorsese Strikes Back!
Scorsese works with DiCaprio on The Departed, Scorsese wins an Oscar for Best Director. DiCaprio works on The Blood Diamond and carries the whole film, receives nothing but another useless nomination. Harsh isn't it? But it happened. Scorsese was long overdue an Oscar, and the fact it came for a 'The Departed' is just proof of the delusion of the Academy. 'Taxi Driver' was beaten to Best Picture by Rock', Raging Bull by Ordinary People (honest) and Goodfellas by Dances with Wolves. If this proves anything, its that the Academy are consistent for making poor choices, but despite the kick in the teeth DiCaprio received the year of The Blood Diamond and The Departed, he probably takes solace in the fact that it took someone like Scorsese 40 fantastic years to win one.
